Robert E. Cochran Sr., amateur golf champion, died Saturday, April 19, 2003 while out on his regular walk in his neighborhood in Chesterfield. He had his golf club in hand. He was 90.
In 1931, while a student at McBride High School, he captured the Western Junior Championship in Chicago, his first of many victories as an amateur golfer.
Mr. Cochran was an eight-time St. Louis District champion, winning his first championship in 1933 and his last in 1965.
He played in the prestigious Masters in 1946, 1960 and in 1961.
Mr. Cochran was a past President of the St. Louis District Golf Association, three time President of the Missouri Golf Association, a 50 year member of the Missouri State Amateur Board and the USGA Board.
When not on the golf course, Mr. Cochran worked in sales for St. Clair Packwell. |
