Seventy three players teed it up for Monday’s first round at beautiful Winghaven Country Club.
The weather was really humid and hot, and the play was hot as well. Reigning Senior
Champion Buddy Allen (Dalhousie) lit it up wth a first round 5 Under Par 67. Close behind were
Winghaven’s own Scott McClellan and David Pfeil (Legends) both shooting 68, while David
Rudd (St. Albans) shot 69 and Persimmon Woods’ Brian Hall carded a 70.
In the Super Senior Division, the reigning champion Bob Trittler (Persimmon Woods) again led
the way with a one over par 73, followed by James Jandro (Norwood Hills) and Rick Meyer
(Bellerive), both carding 75.
In the Net Senior competition, Gary Hill (Old Hickory) posted a 66, while Doug Hord
(Winghaven), posted 67, and Tom Dean (Forest Hills) posted 68.
In the Net Super Senior competition, Don Bassman (Westwood) carded a Net 64, Stan
Schroeder (Norwood Hills) carded a 69 and Clark Amos (Old Warson) shot 70.
Day Two brought cooler weather and cloudy skies. With most of the field in, we incurred a
lightning delay of an hour and 40 minutes for the few groups remaining on the course. As a
result of the delay, there were several “No Card” results posted for that day for players who
could not wait for the resumption of play.
The final pairing in the Senior Division brought the leaders head to head, with Buddy Allen
defending his title, shooting 4 under par 68, for a two day total of 135. Congratulations Buddy.
Our runner up was David Pfeil (Legends) just one shot behind at 136 and Scott McClellan at
137. Brian Hall (Persimmon) finished 4th at 141.
In the Super Senior Division, Bob Trittler (Persimmon) also retained his title, carding another 73
for a two day total of 146. Tony Brown (Persimmon) roared back from his first day 80 to shoot
71, for a two day total of 151, winning a scorecard playoff over James Jandro. Bernie McGuire
(Meadowbrook) finished fourth, with a two day total of 152.
In the Net Senior Division, John Ricci (Old Hickory) captured first place, with a two day total of
134. Doug Hord finished second at 135, and Gary Hill was third at 137.
In the Net Super Senior Division, Don Bassman (Westwood), blew away the field with a two day
total of 125 (19 Under), while James Jandro captured second at 137. Tim Schillhahn (Legends)
beat Rick Meyer (Bellerive) in a scorecard playoff at 151.
Thanks to all who participated, as well as our numerous volunteers who make our events
possible. And many thanks to GM Nathan Charnes and Head Professional Sally Collins, as well
as the maintenance crew who made this year’s championship a great success.
See you next year at Bogey Hills for the Cassett Senior Championship.
