STLDGA-Andy Frost wins his second Senior Title, Don Dupske his fifth Super Senior Title
The St. Louis District Golf Association’s 26th Annual Cassett Senior Championship was held at the beautiful Old Hickory Golf Club on Tuesday, August 23 and Wednesday the 24th. The golf course was in phenomenal condition, and 58 players teed it up Tuesday morning to a forecasted beautiful day. Unfortunately, the forecast was wrong, as players played throughout the morning into mid afternoon with sporadic showers, some of which were quite heavy, but no lightning, so the players played through it.
Jim Storey, (Glen Echo Country Club), was the Day 1 medalist, with an even par score of 72. One shot behind was Joe Timpone, (Persimmon Woods Golf Club), carding a 73. Andy Frost, (Bellerive Country Club), Craig Fallon (Fox Run Golf Club), and Scott Edwards (The Legends), all carded two over par 74s.
In the Super Senior Division (65+years old), Don Dupske (The Legends) continued his dominance in this event, shooting a one over 73, to lead the way for the Super Seniors. Glenn Pearl (The Legends) was second with a 75, and Bill Koob carded a 76 to be in the final pairingfor the Super Seniors the following day.
Wednesday morning brought a beautiful, somewhat sunny day, for the players to head out for a shotgun start. In an exciting finish, Andy Frost birdied his last hole, to shoot a one under par 71, beating Scott Edwards, by a stroke, with a two day total of 145. Edwards shot an even par 72 to capture the runner up spot in the Senior Division, shooting a two day total of 146. David Johnson, the 2015 Senior Champion, roared back from a Day One 79, to shoot 71 and capture 3rd place in the Senior Division.
In the Super Senior Division, Don Dupske captured his fifth Super Senior title, to accompany his three wins in the Senior Division. Don shot a two over par 74 to go along with his Day One 73, to capture medalist honors. Glenn Pearl also carded a 74, for a two day total of 149, as the runner up in this year’s event. Bill Koob shot 75 to take third place, with a two day total of 151.
In the Net side of the competition, Dave Ellis (Old Hickory Golf Club) captured the Senior Net medalist honors, with a two day total of 143. Larry Buchanan (Old Hickory Golf Club) was second with 147, and Joe Timpone (Persimmon Woods Golf Club) was third with 148.
In the Super Senior Net Division, Jack Quinn (Fox Run Golf Club),was the medalist, with a two day total of 144. Steve Weinstock (Westwood Country Club) finished second, losing in a score card playoff, and Dennis Vogt (Old Hickory Golf Club) finished third at 147.
