September 13th & 14th, 2016
38 teams teed it up at beautiful Westborough Country Club on September 13 for this year’s Benson Two Man Championship. While Westborough isn’t the longest course the participants play, it certainly gave the participants a true test of their golf skills. Westborough played to a Par 68 at just under 5500 yards.
Day One of this unique tournament features the players playing a four ball format. At the end of Day 1, Tom Sinak (Fox Run GC) and Buddy Allen (Dalhousie GC) led the way with a 4 under 64. Three teams behind them shot 66, including defending champions Matt Lewis and Steve Hyten (Sunset Hills CC), Nathan Calcari and Drew Pranger (Glen Echo CC), and Ted Jones (Legends) and Sam Migdal (Norwood Hills CC). In the net competition, Brent Kerns and Chad Tobin (Sunset Hills CC) and Gerry Schuetzenhofer and Dan Abegg (Sunset Hills CC) both carded 62s.
The Day 2 format was a foursome competition. The team of Jones/Migdal, shot a blistering 62, with 7 birdies on the front. Quite a display of golf! Their two day gross total of 128 was 6 shots clear of the second place team of Lewis/Hyten at 134, who won a scorecard playoff over Sinak/ Allen. The team of Calcari/Pranger finished at 141.
On the Net side of the competition, the team of Jeff Harnack (Old Hickory GC) and Jeff Buss (Winghaven CC) won with a two day net score of 131, edging the Greenbriar Hills CC team of Dave Diemer and Sean Concagh at 132. Tim Schillihahn and Bob George (Legends) finished third at 133.
Thanks to the Westborough staff for hosting this great event, with great weather, great golf course, and great competition.
