October 15 & 16, 2016
Wow! That’s the best way to describe this year’s Jim Jackson Invitational at beautiful Algonquin Golf Club. The venue was in perfect condition, the weather conditions excellent, and the golf was spectacular.
Day One included the 2015 Jackson Winner, Heath Peters (Westborough CC), carding a spectacular 6 under round of 65 to lead the way. Close behind at 67 were Darren Stoffel (Glen Echo CC) and Ryan Schuenke (Quincy CC). Phil Caravia (Norwood Hills CC) carded a 68, Andy Frost (Bellerive CC) shot 69, and Jim Holtgrieve (Bellerive CC), Ted Jones (Legends) and Tim Miller (Greenbriar Hills CC), all shot 70.
Day Two brought even more excitement. Phil Caravia, Darren Stoffel and Heath Peters played outstanding golf throughout the day. The event came down to the last hole in the last group, with Peters and Stoffel battling. Stoffel was one ahead going to 18, hit his second shot into a green side bunker, and got up and down for par. Peters was pin high just off the green in two, managed to birdie the hole and take the championship to extra holes.
Both players made par on #1, with Peters making a great par save from the bunker. The playoff then went to #18, where both players were on the green in two, and Peters making a nice birdie putt to win the Championship for the second consecutive year. Great playing by both competitors.
And a big “thank you” to Scott Sandfort and his Pro Shop staff, Rob Kick, the Greens Superintendent who had the course in great shape, and the Food and Beverage Staff for a great lunch following the event, And a big “Shout Out” to the Algonquin membership who allowed us to have their course for two days to host this great event.
Thanks to all the clubs, and to our numerous volunteers who make these events the success that they are. See you in 2017!
