This year’s Jim Jackson Invitational Championship was held at beautiful Greenbriar Hills
Country Club, since this year’s Centennial playing of the Men’s Championship was held this
summer at Algonquin Golf Club. While our field was smaller this year, featuring 29 players,
either Club Champions or Players who qualified thru various District events this year, the
competition was fierce.
Old Hickory’s Chris Kovach, who won this year’s Men’s Championship for the third time, shot a
blistering 65 (6 Under) on Day 1, featuring 7 birdies, to take a three shot lead over our 2018 and
2011 Jackson Champion, Chad Niezing, from Fox Run Golf Club, and a five shot lead over Sam
Migdal, from Persimmon Woods,(and our 2013 Jackson Champion) as well as Jason Landry,
from host club Greenbriar (and this year’s Mid Am Champion), and past champion Phil
Caravia(our 2004 Jackson Champion), also posting 70s.
Day 2 brought cloudy skies and cooler temperatures, which cooled off Kovach a little, recording
a 72, which still propelled to a three shot victory, for a two day total of 137. Migdal recorded
another 70, for a two day total of 140, while Niezing shot 74, for a two day total of 142, tieing
Landry who shot 72, also totaling 142 for the two days.
Thanks to all who participated, including host and District Rep Ted Moloney, as well as Matt
Gindler and his Pro Shop staff, and a big shout out to the Greens crew, who had the golf course
in pristine condition.
And a big thank you to the Greenbriar Members, who allowed us to have two hours of prime
time tee times over the weekend.
Thanks to all who participated in District events in 2019. We appreciate your support of the
District and look forward to seeing you in 2020.
