Algonquin Golf Club once again hosted our season ending Jim Jackson Invitational
Championship, featuring 33 of The Districts top players and Club Champions at their respective
clubs. The golf course was in its usual excellent condition and a great test for the competitors.
Saturday was a beautiful fall day with some great scoring. Drew Pranger, the Club Champion
from Glen Echo, shot a blistering three under par 68 to lead the way. Not far behind was three
time champion Jim Holtgrieve (Bellerive), and Jamie Harrell (Algonquin), both carding a one
under 70. Drew Denton (Dalhousie) and Scott McClellan (Winghaven) both carded 71s, while
our two time defending champion, Heath Peters (Westborough) shot 72 to round out the last two
groups for the Sunday final round.
The weather Sunday went from fair to poor. Overnight rain caused to course to soften a bit and
we went to cart path only and preferred lies. As the day went on, temperatures dropped, the
wind increased, and participants played thru a light (to not so light) mist that occurred
throughout most of the round.
Pranger carded a 72 on Sunday, featuring an eagle on the Par 4 12th hole, to shoot a two day
total of 140, to win by 4 strokes. Drew Denton and Heath Peters both recorded two day scores
of 144 to become the runners up for this year’s championship. David Pfiel (The Legends)
carded an excellent 71 on Day two in very difficult conditions. Well played by all.
And as always, thanks to Scott Sandfort, the Head Professional, Rob Kick, Superintendent, the
Food and Beverage staff, and the remainder of the Algonquin team for an excellent job in
hosting our event. Thanks also to District Rep Tom Moore, with an assist from wife Liz, Tom
Tangaro and Larry Howe, for assisting with the on-course scoring.
And thanks to our volunteer Rules Officials for their work and support throughout the 2017
season. Thanks for everyone who supported our events throughout 2017. We look forward to
seeing you in 2018.
