Eighteen teams teed it up on Wednesday, September 26, on a spectacular Fall Day at the Legends.
This year’s originally scheduled tourney was rained out in the Spring, so the Legends was kind
enough to reschedule and host a great event.
The Sunset Hills team of Pro Jon DePriest, Superintendent Joey Davis, District Rep Tony
Gabriel, and District President Drew Santee shot an 18 Under 126 to capture the inaugural Roy
Wilson District Challenge trophy. The District Challenge was started in 2002, under the
leadership of Roy Wilson, the STLDGA Executive Director from 2000-2015. The STLDGA
Board of Directors voted to rename the event to the Roy Wilson District Challenge, in honor of
Roy’s 15 years of outstanding service to the District.
The Meadowbrook team of Pro Craig Liddle, Asst. Superintendent Dan Lloyd, Jim Shaffer and
Dave Rosen were runners up, with a score of 16 Under 128. The Bellerive team of Pro Brandon
Veld, Asst. Superintendent Jared Brewster, District Rep Andy Frost and Jack Malloy finished
third, shooting 15 Under 129.
In the Pro competition, Brandon Veld (Bellerive) and Craig Liddle (Meadowbrook), both carded
outstanding rounds of 2 Under 70, and Brandon won a scorecard playoff to capture first place.
Tom Sipula (St. Clair) and Nathan Charnes (Winghaven), shot even par, with Tom winning a
scorecard playoff for third place.
In the Superintendent competition, Joey Davis (Sunset Hills) recorded the round of his life,
shooting an outstanding 84/Net 57 to capture first place. John Briggs (Fox Run) finished
second at 68, and Chad Fetter (Bogey Hills) shot 69 for third place.
Many thanks to Brian Schmersahl, Matt O’Dell and the Legends crew for hosting an outstanding
