Thirty Seven teams teed it up at Dalhousie Golf Club on September 19th and 20th for this
year’s Benson Two Man Championship. The weather was in the mid to upper 90s both days,
making it feel like mid July rather than mid September There were 16 teams in the Open
Division, which played about 6400 yards, and the Net Only Division had 22 teams playing from
about 6100 yards. The Old Hickory Golf Club was extremely well represented, with 12 teams in
the event.
Day One
Day One featured a Four Ball round for the competitors. The Open Division featured some
great play, with Winghaven’s Didier Villard and Doug Hord shooting a Gross score of 4 Under
68, as did the team of Kurt Calvert and Drew Forrester from Algonquin Golf Club. Close behind
was the Whitmoor team of Brian Boehle and Ryan Robertson at 69. The two Dalhousie teams,
consisting of Brevin Giebler and Aaron Coon, along with Buddy Allen and Tom Sinak carded
71s, to tie for third place.
On the Net Side of the Open Division, the Calvert/Forrester team was an 8 Under 64, with the
Hord/Villard team and the Boehle/Robertson team were at 5 Under 67, and the team of John
Rankin (Meadowbrook) and Joe Stoll (Bogey Hills) were at 68.
In the Net Only Division, the Old Hickory team of Dylan Mozier and Landon Shipley shot a
blazing 12 Under 60 to lead the way. Seven strokes behind was the Old Hickory team of Aaron
Cook and Jason Campbell at 67, and the Algonquin team of Mike Maher and Jamie Sheffield
shot a net 68.
Day Two
Day Two is Foursome Competition, always testing the friendship of the partners! In the Open
Division, Dalhousie’s team of Buddy Allen and Tom Sinak posted a second round 74 to
accompany their first round of 71 to capture the Benson 2022 Championship. The first round
leaders from Winghaven, Doug Hord and Didier Villard shot 80, to finish at 148, three strokes
behind in second place. As a result of their finish, both teams receive an invitation to the
Jackson Invitational at Algonquin Golf Club in October.
Dalhousie’s team of Brevin Giebler and Aaron Coon finished third, shooting a two day total of
151, as did the Old Hickory team of Jim Hennessey and Mark Keller.
In the Open Division Net Competition, the Rankin/Stoll team captured the Net victory, with a
two day total of 144. Hennessey/Keller finished second net at 145, while the Calvert/Forrester
team finished at 145 for third place.
In the Net Only Division, the Mozier/Shipley team continued their fine play, shooting a Net 74 to
accompany their first round 60, for a two day total of 134, winning by 10 strokes over the team
of Cook/Campbell at 144. The Old Hickory team of Quillman and Shaper finished third at 146.
Several teams withdrew to injury or heat on Day Two, accounting for several of the WD’s shown
on the Leaderboards.
