What a glorious day for golf at Sunset Hills Country Club in Edwardsville. Thirty Two teams teed it up for this
year’s championship, one of the larger fields in recent years. And we saw some great golf
amongst the teams and the Professionals, playing against each other in a Stableford scoring
format. This year’s event was played at just under 6000 yards, playing a bit shorter than usual
but accounting for the hilly terrain at Sunset Hills, and played to Par 72.
In the Team competition, the Old Hickory team, comprised of Joe Amlong, Greg Ewald, Gary
Hill and Pro Caleb Williems shot a team total of 19 Under Par, to capture the Etzkorn Trophy for
2022.
The Norwood Hills team of Jim McLaughlin, Phil Hamilton, John David and Pro Bobby
Pavelonis, finished one stroke behind at 18 Under Par, to capture second place, and the
Westborough team of Humphrey Cook, Dan Krupp, Denny O’Neill and Pro Matt Stock (from
Greenbriar subbing for Jim Miali), finished third at 17 Under Par. Well played by all.
In the Professional competition, Brett Moomey from Algonquin Golf Club birdied 18 to capture
the honors in this year’s Pro Competition. Brett accumulated 49 points, led by a spectacular 7
Under Par 29 on the back nine. Matt Stock was one point back at 48 points, while the
Legends Skip Berkmeyer, playing as the Pro on one of the Legends teams, lost in a scorecard
playoff to finish third in that competition.
Many thanks to Director of Golf Jon DePriest, Head Pro RC Martin and the entire Sunset Hills
crew for hosting this fun event. And a special thanks to the Sunset Hills membership for giving
us the course for the greater portion of the day.
