Kyle and Kathy Glennon (Country Club of St. Albans) endured.a three-hole playoff to capture the championship of the 2023 Salomon Parent/Child Championship at Whitmoor Country Club in Weldon Spring on Friday, Aug. 11.
The Glennons posted a 3-under round of 69 and overcame three bogeys with a hole-in-one on Hole No. 14 and an eagle on Hole No. 7 along with birdies on Holes 3, 4 and 11. Bob and Clayton Cissell (Bogey Hills Country Club) also recorded a 69 by finishing strong with three birdies in the final six holes to send the match to a playoff. Kathy Glennon rolled in a birdie putt from just off the green to win the playoff
In the 35-Year and Older Flight, Dennis and Steve Osborne (Bogey Hills Country Club) slipped past Troy and Dick Halterman (Whitmoor Country Club) by a single stroke. The Osbornes clinched it with a birdie at Hole No. 18 to shoot 70, while the Haltermans finished at 71. Terry and Ed Schultz (Meadowbrook Country Club) were another stroke back at 72.
Todd and Hudson Linnenbringer (Persimmon Woods Golf Club) captured the 13 & Under Flight with a 76 by playing steady par golf for eight straight holes in the middle of their round. Peter and Henry Millman (St. Louis Country Club) were runners-up, also posting a 76.
Terry and Bryce Shultz (Meadowbrook Country Club) grabbed the 14-15 Year-Old Flight by stringing four birdies in Holes 7-11 on their way to a round of 70. Kyle and Blake Laramie (Lake Forest Golf & Country Club) finished six strokes back.
In the 16-17 Year-Old Flight, Dustin and Carter Ashby (Winghaven Country Club) rebounded from two bogeys among the first four holes to fire five birdies and finish at 3-under 69. Anijay and Shay Zinzuwadia (Whitmoor Country Club) were five strokes off the pace.
Gordon Walker and Gordon Jr. (Bellerive Country Club) also recovered from a slow start in the 18-23 Year-Old Flight with two bogeys in the first three holes, but recovered with three birdies on the back nine to post a 2-under 70. Costly bogeys at Holes 8, 9 and 10 landed David and David Schilp (Bogey Hills Country Club) in second with a 73.
Forty-four teams competed in this year’s Salomon event that featured two-person teams in a modified selective drive/alternate shot format.
