Bryant Runs The Table At The Mens Championship

Saturday’s weather reflected the norm for the Men’s Championship, as it was the hottest day of
the year thus far. Here are the results of the various matches:

Round of 16

Our Medalist and #1 Justin Bryant, from St. Louis Country Club, disposed of #16 seed Greg
Sanborn (Persimmon Woods) 7&6. #2 Seed Michael Becker (Glen Echo) defeated #15 Seed
David Schlep (Bogey Hills) 6&5. Drew Pranger (Glen Echo), the #14 seed, defeated the 2020
Men’s Champion #3 seed Jason Landry (Greenbriar Hills) , 3&2. Dalhousie’s Brevin Gielbler,
the #4 seed, defeated #13 seed Didier Villard (Winghaven) 3&2. The #5 seed, Peter Weaver
(Bellerive) defeated Quincy’s Ryan Schuenke , the #12 seed 3&2. Three time Men’s Champion
Chris Kovach (Old Hickory) the #11 seed, defeated our defending champion and #6 seed Frank
Thomas 3&2. Algonquin’s Shawn Jasper, the #7 seed, defeated Paul Neeman (Persimmon
Woods) the #10 seed, 3&2. Our 2011 champion, Alex Cusumano from Norwood Hills, the #8
seed, defeated the #9 seed Reilly Ahearn (Persimmon Woods) 3&2.

Bryant and Cusumano battled it out for 20 holes, with Bryant coming out on top. Peter Weaver
defeated Brevin Giebler 4&2. Shawn Jasper defeated Michael Becker 2 Up, while Drew
Pranger outdualed Chris Kovach 2&1.

The Golf Gods were kind to both the players and the golf course, as we had various periods of
much needed rain for the golf course, but intermittent enough to allow us to get all the matches
done by mid afternoon.
Justin Bryant handled Peter Weaver 2 Up in the first semifinal match, while Shawn Jasper took
care of Drew Pranger 4&3 to set up the championship match.

We started the final match early in hopes of getting done without too much rain. We had
periods of dry time and some periods of light to moderate rain. Justin Bryant continued his
great play to defeat Jasper 5&3. Justin’s trophy shelf now includes both the Cochran Mid-Am
trophy and the Griesedieck trophy both in the same year. Congratulations Justin!

And many thanks to Director of Golf Joe Schwent, Co-Head Professionals Curt Goss and Zach
Potts and the entire team at Country Club of St. Albans for hosting an outstanding event. The
course was in awesome shape and the players loved it.

As always, thanks to our dedicated team of volunteer Rules Officials, who give up their time to
assist us simply for the love of the game and the opportunity to see some great golf.

See you next July at Glen Echo for the 104th playing of the Men’s Championship.
