The Cochran Mid-Am Championship was held on a crisp, clear Fall Day (except it was May
12th). 60 players plus the team of Cochran family teed it up at beautiful Sunset Country Club.
The course was hard and fast, and played tough for the competitors.
In the Open Gross Division, Tony Gumper from Old Hickory Golf Club posted an early 1 Under
71, which held up through the afternoon of some stiff competition. Congrats to Tony! Well
played. The reigning 2019 and 2020 Mid-Am champion, Jason Landry, Greenbriar Hills, was a
stroke back to be this year’s Runner Up. Brian Lovett from Bellerive finished third with two
over 74, edging Sean Brennan, from Westborough in a scorecard playoff.
In the Open Net Division, Paul Neeman, Old Hickory Golf Club, carded an even par Net 72,
while Meadowbrook’s Dan Kelley finished one back at 73. Greenbriar’s Justin Haupt finished
third and Westborough’s David Hughes finished fourth.
The top five (and ties) Gross finishers qualify for the Season Ending Jackson Invitational;
Tony Gumper, Jason Landry, Paul Neeman, Brian Lovett, Sean Brennan, Justin Haupt, and
Chris Kovacs (Old Hickory).
In the Net Competition played from 6200 yards, Michael Kruse from his home course at Sunset
Country Club, netted a three over 75, while Old Hickory’s John Ricci was runner up at 77, and
Westborough’s Steve Dioneda recorded an outstanding net 78 to finish third.
Thanks to all who participated. Special thanks to Ryan Johnson, Head Professional at Sunset
and the entire Sunset staff for hosting this event.
And a special thanks also goes to the Cochran family who came out to play in the event and to
present the trophies on behalf of their father and grandfather, Mr. Bob Cochran.
See you next year for the Mid-Am at Bellerive Country Club on Monday, May 9, 2022.
