Bellerive Takes The Wilson Challenge!

Twenty two teams teed it up at this year’s Wilson District Challenge on an outstanding
afternoon at Old Hickory Golf Club. The competition, the course, and the weather were simply
the best.
In the Pro Competition, Grant Masson, St. Louis Country Club, led the way in the new
Stableford competition for the Pros, carding 38 points. Old Hickory’s own Brett Moomey was
close behind with 37 points, and Mike Tucker racked up 36 points to finish third in the Pro
Division.
In the Superintendent Competition, Nick White from Bellerive won a Stableford scorecard
playoff against Tim Salazar from Quincy Country Club, both generating 34 points in the
Superintendent Division, which involves using a Net Competition with 80% handicap. Adam
Way, a last minute substitution from Forest Hills, finished third with 32 points.
The Team Competition used the traditional two best balls net of the four players, using 80% of
the amateur’s handicap. Based on great performances in their Pro and Superintendent
Competitions, Bellerive repeated as champions in this year’s event, shooting 129 to retain the
Wilson Trophy. In addition to Mike Tucker and Nick White, Andy Frost and Tom Schneider filled
out the Bellerive team.
The Algonquin team of Scott Sandfort, Rob Kick, Tom Moore and Randy Graham won a
scorecard playoff over the St. Louis Country Club team of Grant Masson, Tim Burch, Toby
Martin and Bob Gast, to finish second and third in the team competition, carding a team total
of 130.
Thanks to all who participated in this year’s Wilson District Challenge. Special thanks to Old
Hickory’s Head Pro Brett Moomey, Superintendent Dave Pini, and the staff and membership at
Old Hickory for hosting this year’s championship.
