Thomas Hangs On To Win

69 players teed it up on Thursday, July 15th, at beautiful Bogey Hills Country Club for the
102nd playing of the Championship. The course was firm and fast with several players in the
field recording under par rounds. David Bremer, from Persimmon Woods Golf Club, lit it up,
shooting a spectacular 5 Under 66 to lead the field. Defending Champion Jason Landry from
Greenbriar Hills, was close behind, shooting 67. Paul Neeman, from Persimmon Woods, and
Brian Lovett, from Bellerive, shot 2 Under 69, with Max Kreikemeier, from Forest Hills, shot 70.
With storms rolling in overnight, Friday’s start times were pushed back from 7 AM to 10:30 AM,
with the Bogey Hills Grounds crew doing a spectacular job getting the course prepared for the
day. With all the players on the course, a couple of significant showers caused a suspension of
play for another two hours, while the Grounds crew did their best to remove standing water
from the putting green surfaces.
With the course playing much harder throughout the day, Kreikemeier posted a two under par
69, for a two day total of 139, to be this year’s medalist. Norwood’s Alex Cusumano, our 2011
Men’s Champion, also recorded at 69 for a two day total of 144, while Michael Becker from
Glen Echo, posted a 70 for the only other under par round, and a two day total of 147.
Fortunately, the cut for Match play was an even 16 players, as follows:

Championship Match

What a great match! Thomas took an early 4 Up lead on the front, then Migdal won the next 3
holes. Thomas took a 4 Up lead into the 15th hole, but Migdal applied the pressure with key
putts to take the Match to the 18th hole, where Thomas made a par putt to secure the victory.
Well played by both participants.
Frank Thomas, son of the 1993 winner Scott Thomas, becomes the first Father/Son Combo to
win the Men’s championship in the 102 years of the Men’s Championship. Congrats!
And a special thanks to the entire Bogey Hills staff for hosting an outstanding event. Special
kudos to Superintendent Chad Fetter for preparing the golf course twice on Friday after a
couple of drenching downpours!

See you next year at the Country Club of St. Albans!
